Medical Context
Immunodeficient patients, i.e. patients whose immunological defence is weakened even temporarily, must be kept in isolation, often for quite a long period, in order to protect them from infections.

During this period they have contacts only with their doctors/nurses, and younger ones with their mother too. Contacts require adequate preventive and hygienic measures (basically the sterilization of the visitor). Contacts with the external world through TV, telephone, etc. too are very limited, both for hygienic reasons (need of sterilizing any object) and practical reasons, because the isolation rooms are small and the available space is often needed to host monitors or therapeutic devices.

In hospital there are many other  restricted areas, that can be accessed only by few professionals or by few people at a time. These are, for instance, the operating theater and different laboratories where there is a danger of/from chemical or biological contamination and strict preventive and protective measures must be applied, starting from access restriction.

Of course, students of medicine, nursery, and other biomedicine related specialties, such as biomedical engineering, have little or no opportunity of familiarizing with the typical activities of the restricted areas and even to access them once during their studies. On the other hand, young immunodeficient patients must stop their school/university activities during their isolation period.

This project was born from the idea of using wireless solutions and mobile technology to bridge the gap between the hospital restricted areas and the external world, in order to allow both healthy students to keep in touch with a teacher in a restricted area, and young immunodeficient patients to get in contact with their school/universities.
